About Split PDF
Split PDF cuts one document into several smaller files. You can turn every page into its own PDF, or type ranges such as 1-3, 4-6, 7 to get one file per range. Because pages are copied rather than re-compressed, they stay perfectly sharp.
Sometimes you only need chapter 3, or the signed page, or a PDF that is small enough to upload. Split PDF cuts your document exactly where you tell it to, and the pages stay sharp because nothing gets re-compressed.
How to use Split PDF
- Choose the PDF you want to split.
- Pick 'every page' or type your own page ranges.
- Press Split PDF. If you get several files, they come in one ZIP.
When to use Split PDF
- Send one chapter or one signed page instead of the whole document.
- Break a large scan into separate documents, such as one PDF per invoice.
- Get a file under an upload limit by sending it in two or three parts.
- Share only the pages a colleague needs and keep the rest private.
Tips for better results
- Use commas to separate ranges. Each comma-separated part becomes its own PDF.
- Several files come out as a ZIP, which keeps your downloads folder tidy.
- If you want only one new file with selected pages, Extract Pages is the shorter route.
Why use 40PDF for this?
Splitting happens on your device, so a 300-page report does not have to travel to a server and back. You get your files in seconds and nobody else ever sees them.
Split PDF: questions and answers
What does the ZIP contain?
One PDF for every range (or every page) you asked for, named in order.
Does splitting reduce quality?
No. Pages are copied as they are, so text and images look the same as in the original.
I only want a few pages in one file. Which tool?
Use Extract Pages. It gives you a single PDF with just the pages you pick.
How do I split a PDF into separate pages?
Open Split PDF, add your file, choose Every page becomes its own PDF and press Split PDF. You will receive a ZIP with one PDF per page.
How do I split a PDF by page range?
Choose Custom ranges and type the ranges separated by commas, for example 1-3, 4-6, 7. Each range is saved as its own PDF.
Is there a page limit for splitting?
We do not set one. Very large files depend on your device memory, so a recent phone or laptop is best for hundreds of pages.
